Four easy ways to boost AmpolCard security and minimise fraud risk

Fraudulent card use, including stolen cards and unauthorised spending, can impact your bottom line. AmpolCard offers tools, reporting and security features designed to help identify and minimise fraud risk and overspending.

Here are four ways to stay on top of your on-road costs:

1. Use PIN protection for secure AmpolCard transactions

Lost or stolen AmpolCards are a common source of fraudulent card use.

Requiring each AmpolCard user to use a PIN makes it harder for anyone else to misuse the card.

Update your PIN via  your Card Portal

If you are experiencing login issues, please ensure you have the updated Card Portal URL correctly saved in your browser’s bookmarks or favourites. Login at https://cards.ampol.com.au.

To update your PIN:

  • Log in to your Card Portal
  • Search the card in the quick search field
  • Click ‘Card Actions’
  • Under ‘Update PIN’ enter a 4-6 digit sequence and click 'Submit'
  • Your AmpolCard is now secured.

To keep your account protected, do not write the PIN on the card. For added security, consider changing your PIN regularly. If you have multiple cards under your account, update the PIN settings for each AmpolCard holder via your Card Portal.

* Please note, if you are requesting a new or replacement AmpolCard, you will be able to set a PIN the next business day.

2. Run a range of reports to identify red flags

Take the guesswork out of managing vehicle expenses. Through the Card Portal, you can run a range of AmpolCard reports that provide useful insights into when and how your team use their AmpolCard.

Reports can help identify accidental or fraudulent non-work-related AmpolCard use at an individual driver or vehicle level. For example, an ‘Exception Report’ can help flag potential card misuse or overspending by showing:

  • More than 1 fill on the same day
  • Fills greater than vehicle fuel capacity
  • Odometer readings that don’t match fuel usage
  • Transactions outside regular business hours

Simply click on ‘Create Report’ in the Reports section to explore all the reporting options available including ‘Exception Reporting’. You can schedule your reporting for automatic email delivery at your preferred intervals.  Once set up, you can easily review and identify any areas of potential misuse or fraud.

3. Set individual Daily and Monthly spend limits for your drivers

Setting Daily and Monthly spend limits in your Card Portal is a quick and simple way to help reduce the risk of fraudulent card use.

You can set spend limits for each driver based on their usual usage and spend. This allows drivers to fill up when they need to, while helping you keep spending within approved limits. Limits can be updated at any time through the portal.

Check and update your Daily and Monthly transaction limits today. It’s easy

  • Log in to your Card Portal
  • Search the card in the quick search field
  • Click ‘Edit’ on the ‘Card Detail’ tab
  •  Scroll to Purchase Controls. You can edit the daily and monthly transaction dollar limits from here.

4. Set approved purchases for your AmpolCard users

Setting purchase options for each card can help reduce overspending and misuse. Manage these controls through your Card Portal to keep on-road costs aligned with your business needs.

In the Card Portal, you can choose which fuel products each card can be used to purchase. For example, you can limit a card to petrol or diesel only, depending on the vehicle it is linked to. This can help reduce unauthorised use for non-work vehicles and give you better visibility and control over fuel spend.

You can also set preferences for non-fuel purchases. These may include vehicle-related items, or food, coffee and other eligible purchases from Ampol Foodary. You decide what each card can be used for.

  • Log in to your Card Portal
  • Search the card in the quick search field
  • Click 'Edit' on the 'Card Detail' tab
  • Scroll to Products and Services
  • You can update the card’s eligible purchases from here.
